OURCs are pleased to announce the creation of a dedicated Rowing Fund operational from Trinity 2026. The fund is intended to supplement the costs of items essential for their participation in sport (e.g. membership fees, personal equipment, mandatory kit, training camps) in order to increase participation and access for all. This is a termly grant and applicants should pay attention to deadlines as only a limited number of applications can be reviewed per term.
Oxford Rowing Fund Application Form – Fill in form
This fund is open to any current student who receives a means-tested (non-academic) bursary or scholarship. As part of the application form it will be necessary to attach a copy of the letter confirming you are in receipt of a such as bursary or scholarship.
Most graduate stipends are academic, not means-tested. If you are a graduate student and wondering about eligibility criteria, please email ourcs.sabbatical@sport.ox.ac.uk, or provide further details of your circumstances on the dedicated section of the application form.
The maximum funding available for an individual is £100 and this should be used within the academic year.
Eligible students can receive funds once per year and can apply annually even if this is for the same reoccurring costs e.g. club membership fees.
As part of the application form you will be asked to outline the items that you applying to the fund for. Costs will need to be broken own and links provided where appropriate (see examples below).
Example 1 – St Digworth's College Boat Club membership fees; three terms @£30/term
Example 2 – Partial subsidy, OUBC Winter Training Camp; ~£300 in total, requesting £100
Example 3 – Competition unisuit (paste link here); £70
You can apply for multiple items but the total amount that can be award to an individual is £100. Please ensure you check the fundable and non-fundable criteria below before submitting an application.
Club membership subscription fees
Mandatory kit e.g. unisuit; OUBC kit package
British Rowing membership (if participating in external regattas)
Training camp expenses (flights, meals, club fees)
Activity costs outside of club membership fees e.g. transport to training/racing venue outside of
Oxford
Non-essential equipment/kit or club owned equipment/kit e.g. cox orbs, sunglasses, lifejackets
Training camps and trips (incl. transportation, accommodation) which aren’t the sport's core activity/required for boat selection/full participation
Competition (OURCs or BR) entry fees and related costs e.g. transportation costs, accommodation
Individual coaching
Taxis and expenses for self-drive vehicles e.g. fuel
Retrospective payments prior to the current academic year
Applications must be submitted by noon on Friday 2nd Week each term and can be made via the Oxford Rowing Fund Application Form – Fill in form. Upcoming deadlines:
Friday 8th May 2026 (Trinity Week 2)
Friday 23rd October 2026 (Michaelmas Week 2)
Friday 29th January 2027 (Hilary Week 2)
Please be aware that only a limited number of applications can be reviewed per term and once the threshold of applications for that term has been met, even if this is prior to the deadline, applications for that term will close. If your application is unsuccessful or you miss the deadline, you can apply again in the next term. With this in mind we encourage students to apply as soon as they are ready to commit to participating in rowing.
