Isis Winter League Scoring Guide

Scoring

Each College Boat Club is split in to two "teams", the men and the women. Each team comprises of it's first and second "boat". A vessel of any size may count as a boat, so smaller boats have the same opportunity to score points.

Once all the times have been collected, we define each "team's" fastest time as their first boat.

We define their second boat as the next fastest time posted, provided that no crew members are in both that boat and the first boat

Each boat then scores points depending on how they rank:

1st boats (first through tenth):
25 / 18 / 15 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 / 2 / 1

2nd boats (first through tenth):
12 / 10 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 / 2 / 1

In the case of ties, both boats get the higher of the two scores.
(ie a tie for second place, both boats get 18 points with fourth place getting 12 as usual)

Thus each "team" can score up to 37 points each IWL.

League System

At the end of each IWL, we'll post what each team scored. Scores are posted on a leaderboard.

To determine the overall winner of the 5 races, we take the three biggest scores and add them together.

For example, if X College BC Men score the following:
25 / 37 / 14 / 10 / 19
Then their overall team total will be 37 + 25 + 19 = 81

The maximum score a team can get is 111. In the case of the tie, whichever team posted the fastest time in any race that year wins.

If IWLs get cancelled, we will count the biggest N scores, where:
all 5 races happen: N=3
4 races happen: N=3
3 races happen: N=2
2 races happen: N=2
1 race happens: N=1
0 races happen: no trophy awarded

The men's and women's team with the highest overall totals will be awarded with the IWL trophy.
