River Restrictions

A complete description of when crews are allowed out is defined in the Code of Conduct.

A summary is presented here:

All Crews

The following restrictions have been decreed by the Proctors (2.6.o):

No member of a Member Club may row:

i.before 1 hour before sunrise and/or after 1 hour after sunset;

ii.between 08:30 and 13:00 on weekdays between 1st and 8th week inclusive, unless:

1.from the following College Boat Clubs: Green Templeton, Linacre, St Antony's, Wolfson or St. Benet's Hall, Blackfriars', and Reuben College Boat Club;

2.in a single scull, double, or pair, or;

3.with the Proctors' permission.

Isis specific rules

All Year

No crew may be on the water between 8am and 1pm on Sundays (2.8.a.i.1)

No crew may be on the water after 7pm on Wednesdays (2.8.a.i.2)

These are out of courtesy to other river users.

Peak Term

(Defined as from Thursday 0th Week to the final day of the Term's major regatta (Tamesis Regatta in Michaelmas, Torpids in Hilary, or Summer VIIIs in Trinity)

Weekdays

Michaelmas and Hilary:

Before 8.00am College Boat Clubs can only have one crew on the water at any one time, except with the written permission of the OURCs Secretary or having been granted an Extra Slot. (2.8.b.i)

Trinity:

Before 8.00am College Boat Clubs can have no more than two 4s or 8s on the water at any one time, except with the written permission of the OURCs Secretary. (2.8.2.a)

Between 17:00 and 19:00, during Peak Term in Trinity, only athletes fulfilling the following conditions may be on the water (2.8.b.iii):

1. crews entered for the Senior divisions in Eights (as defined by the Rules of Racing);
2. the top crew of the division below the Senior Divisions in Eights;
3. all college 1st VIIIs; or
4. single Sculls

Godstow Specific Rules (2.9.a)

In addition to the rules above, no Member Club may row between the following times (out of courtesy to the Medley sailing club):

1. on Sundays from 14:00 to 18:00, from March to November inclusive, and;
2. after 19:00 on Wednesdays during Trinity term.

NB: Crews boating from St Edward’s School must also abide by the restrictions they place upon the use of the site. Crews may only boat from SESBC rafts at the following times:
