Should you have an incident on an Oxford river, such as a capsize, a collision, or any other safety concern, it is your responsibility to report it to British Rowing. The Rowing Sabbatical Officer, as a regional safety advisor for the Upper Thames region, will see the report and reach out for more details (and a welfare check) if needed.
The incident reporting form can be found here.
These reports are not designed to get anyone in trouble. The more we can report run-of-the-mill capsizes in which no one is hurt, the more evidence there is that rowing is on the whole a very safe sport and that serious incidents are quite rare. In the event of a serious incident, we need to know mostly to check that you are ok, and that we are doing everything we can to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
Every club should have a safety advisor or comparable position on committee -- if you do not, we encourage you to make one. Incident reports should in the first instance be submitted by the safety officer, with evidence from the people involved including rowers, coxes, and bankriders. If there is no safety advisor, it is the responsibility of the rowers involved and their committee to submit reports in a timely maner.
